In this episode, you’ll hear from Coach Jason Owens. Coach Owens is currently an Assistant Coach for Coach Jared Phay at Missouri State University-West Plains. Coach Owens joined the West Plains Coaching staff in the Summer of 2020. As you soon will hear, I have known Coach Owens since he was a little guy - actually when Coach Owens was seven years old. Jason’s Dad, Coach Derrick Owens, is a hall of fame coach in Michigan - winning four State Championships and coaching countless players to college. I can’t wait for you to hear Coach Jason's admiration for his father! Jason played college basketball at Siena Heights in Michigan. Siena Heights is a terrific NAIA program. Jason was a two-year team captain and all-conference player for Siena Heights. Coach Owens's coaching career is deep with experience at all levels. Jason has coached at Neosho Community College, Siena Heights, Central Michigan, Moberly Area Community College, Pittsburg State University, and Southeast Missouri State University. Right off the bat, you will instantly connect with Coach Owens. He makes it loud and clear that “Developing the Total Person” is at the core of his coaching philosophy. And the leadership to Coach Jason is simply “Getting to a Young Person’s Heart.” Wait for Coach Owens's daily mantra; which is simply: “Take the Stairs.” It is a tremendous mindset. Trust me, you will debate taking the elevator over the stairs! However, this extremely descriptive mindset defines every day, every profession move, and every life move that Coach Owens makes. Finally, the countless coaching personal experiences that Coach Owens shares for younger players are sensational.
