EP 82 - Mychal Covington, Assistant Coach, Oakland University

Kevin Mondro / Mychal Covington Season 1 Episode 82

Coach Mychal Covington,
In this episode, you’ll hear from Coach Mychal Covington. Coach Covington is currently an Assistant Coach for Coach Greg Kampe at Oakland University. I had the pleasure to come to Oakland University and sit down with Coach Covington - or Coach Cov - as everyone knows him. Coach Covngton played for Coach Kampe, at Oakland from 1998 to 2002. A product of Pontiac, Michigan, Coach Covington finished eighth in the country with 7.1 assists per game during his senior season, ending his career with 514 assists. Coach Covington helped lead the Golden Grizzlies to the Mid-Con regular season title in their inaugural year of Division I competition in 1999-2000. Coach Covington was named assistant coach at Oakland on August 9, 2017. Before Oakland, Coach Covington coached for eleven years at Pontiac High School, Melvindale Academy for Business and Technology High School and Cornerstone Health and Technology High School. He also spent six years as head coach of AAU's Detroit Stars Basketball Club. In addition, Coach Covington coached with the Family AAU Team. Instantly, you are going to be mesmerized with Coach Cov's opening remarks on why he coaches - it is absolutely incredible. And, truly, this conversation is filled with endless knowledge and great advice from Coach Cov. I have had the good fortune of knowing Coach Covington's father. I know, for a fact, that his dad is so proud of the OUTSTANDING coach and man that Coach Covington has become.
